The theme park is eliminating its yearly pass in favor of a monthly membership program that allows customers to earn points by going on rides and posting on social media

Monthly entertainment memberships are popular for streaming services, gaming and movies theatre, and now are coming to theme parks as well. Six Flags amusement park is scrapping its yearly program and replacing it with a monthly membership plan that intends to offer valuable perks to frequenters of its location.

The goal of the membership plan is to keep regular visitors engaged and returning to the park. Members will receive benefits such as discounted food, special VIP park access and free items when they garner a certain number of points. Points can be accumulated by visiting the park and spending money, but also by riding rides and checking in on social media.

The park sees the program as about more than just spending money, however: “Certainly we sell stuff, but our experience is really about riding rides and having amazing experiences, and so we wanted to wrap our loyalty program around those types of experiences,” explains Mark Kupferman of Six Flags.

The membership will become available on August 30 for the 2019 season.
