Snapchat recently added new filters that animate accordingly when users utter a specific word, expanding the app's interactivity

Social sharing platform Snapchat is known for its filter system that lets users add a number of interactive layers to their photos and videos. Currently the platform is taking its capabilities to the next level by animating them through the use of its newly released sound recognition feature.

Usually, Snapchat's filters are animated when the facial recognition system sees the user pulling a specific face. But earlier this month, Snapchat integrated new filters that respond to specific words: For example, one filter creates a cascade of pink petals when the subject of the photo says the word “love.”

By using sound recognition, Snapchat aims to invite its users to engage with the app in new ways. Branching out, the platform hopes to expand the interactivity of its app and provide more ways for users to generate entertaining content.
