Dubbed Uniqlo IQ, the bot offers shoppers a digital concierge service through the store's mobile app, giving customers tailored options organized by everything from occasion to horoscope

Uniqlo is joining the customized retail trend with its recently-launched chatbot that offers shoppers a “digital concierge” service, providing them style recommendations straight from the store. The bot, called Uniqlo IQ, uses machine learning to give customers an individual look into the store’s offerings, and organizes the items by occasion, preferences and horoscopes.

Founding partner of the agency behind the bot, Rei Inamoto, explains the motivation for its creation: “As retail moves deeper into the digital realm, shopping needs to be not just portable and perpetual, but personal as well. There has been a lot of talk about AI in the last few years, but most use cases have been toys, not tools.” He continues, “This iteration of Uniqlo IQ is the foundation of how Uniqlo will provide customer service on a personal level, not just reactively but also proactively.”

After doling out style options, the bot then directs shoppers to the closest Uniqlo store with those products in stock. Uniqlo IQ is available on retailer’s mobile app and recently launched in Japan. It can also be accessed with Google Assistant.
