Wikipedia Offers Consumers Streetwear Collection As Part Of Fundraising Campaign
In an effort to raise funds to keep its service free, the digital encyclopedia has teamed with fashion brand Advisory Board Crystals to create an apparel collection
Since its 2001 inception, Wikipedia has changed the way internet users access information. The website has remained free since its release, which means its owners need to find ways to raise funds. The latest effort takes the form of a collaboration with fashion label Advisory Board Crystals.
Wikipedia is working with ABC to produce a white long-sleeved t-shirt that the company is calling its “first iteration of the physical representation of Wikipedia.” All the proceeds from the sale of the shirt will go to the Wikimedia Foundation which works to keep the site free. The web-based encyclopedia is excited about the collaboration, stating, “As a nonprofit, Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation’s related free knowledge projects are powered primarily through donations. Help us keep knowledge free.
Fundraising can be a difficult effort for non-profit organizations. Creating a branded apparel, Wikipedia hopes to engage users as well as raise awareness for its campaign. The shirt can be purchased via ABC’s website.
