In Brief

The airline is offering a surprise complimentary transfer via Cadillac to pre-selected Concierge Key members, increasing its service value for elite passengers

As airlines look for additional ways to add value to their services, they are turning to partnerships that enable appealing experiences for customers. Currently American Airlines is aiming to augment the travels of its elite passengers by offering them a complimentary transfer from their arriving flight to their connecting one in a Cadillac Escalade.

The service is only available for those passengers flying through Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and who have Concierge Key status, a discreet program that offers privileges to elite members.  The Cadillac picks up the passenger on the tarmac from their arriving flight and takes them directly to their next plane. However, this is not a service that can be booked in advanced and is actually intended as a surprise. While the airline claims the service is reserved for its highest-value customers, it does not detail how the qualifying passengers are chosen to receive the special amenity.

Receiving concierge key status means spending between $40,000 to $50,000 on the airline, which implies that the service is applicable only to people who fly often and in first class. Chicago isn’t the only city to feature this service from the airliner: Other locations include Dallas/Ft. Work, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Philadelphia and John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City.
