John Hancock insurance is using a reward system called Vitality to encourage its clients to meet fitness goals, capitalizing on consumer interest in health & wellness to incentivize business

American insurance agency John Hancock is giving back to policy holders who maintain their health and wellness. Adding fitness tracking is free and offers customers gift cards and certificates as well as premium discount of up to 15%.

The more basic of the two Vitality plans will offer rewards and gift cards to account holders who complete the goals they set for themselves. Progress on the Vitality plan can be tracked through inputting the required information in either an app or online. The more advanced the Vitality plan includes the aforementioned discounted premium and will require John Hancock customers to monitor their progress through a wearable health tracker.

Overall, the brand hopes to capitalize on the consumer interest in health & wellness to offer an attractive incentive and gain competitive edge. The shift from standard life insurance plan to Vitality plans will begin in 2019.
