Payment Company Bridges The Gap Between Online And In-Store Payments

Stripe's newest offering, Terminal, lets web-based retailers create a more holistic transaction experience across multiple platforms, helping optimize their omnichannel retail strategy

Payment platform Stripe has announced the launch of a new product, called Stripe Terminal, that will enable customized payment solutions at brick-and-mortar stores. Previously, Stripe catered to every type of online business, but had yet to provide an offering that gave retailers a seamless system that bridged the digital and physical store locations.

To begin using Stripe Terminal, retailers can purchase a mobile reader or countertop terminal for a flat fee that ranges from $59 to $299, and each customer transaction then includes a processing charge of 2.7% plus five cents. In addition, the solution includes SDKs and APIs for customized purchase experiences, plus software that will allow companies to manage their entire system from one central hub.

Popular brands, including Glossier and Warby Parker, have already started using Stripe Terminal, and web-based companies including MINDBODY and atVenu plan to adopt the service for the in-person extensions of their businesses.
