The platform, powered by Mirakl, will give customers access to thousands of items not available in stores, using an omnichannel retail model to provide customers with greater selection

While many major supermarkets feature seemingly endless aisles of product, brick-and-mortar retailers are continuing to experiment to find the sweet spot in competing with as well as integrating massive online inventories. Idaho-based grocery chain Albertsons is teaming up with online shopping platform provider Mirakl Marketplace to expand its network of third-party brands and offer an even wider selection of product to its customers.

Albertsons hopes the platform will help the grocery chain to stock the most relevant items in keeping up with evolving customer needs and trends. According to Albertsons SVP of Marketing Narayan Iyengar, “The online marketplace provides our customers access to hard-to-find items, increases exposure for partner products and gives us critical data regarding demand for emerging food and wellness trends.”

Albertsons hopes its new online offering will increase its reputation as a one-stop shop, and benefit both customers as well as third-party vendors of hot or hard-to-find items.
