Apple expands its ecosystem for some consumers by integrating  student ID cards from select colleges into its wallet feature

Apple is aiming to make its Wallet feature useful for more than just payments. While the digital platform comes preloaded on all iPhones and Apple Watches, it will now be capable of holding student IDs, at select colleges.

By loading their student ID information into their Apple devices, students at the University of Alabama, University of Oklahoma and Duke University will be able to synch all of their ID’s capabilities to their phones, including tasks such as accessing buildings and residence halls as well as using campus transportation. Apple plans to bring this Wallet feature to Temple University, Johns Hopkins University and Santa Clara University in the near future.

This update not only hopes to widen the capabilities of the platform, but also to appeal to influential younger demographics, making Apple a go-to for all elements of the student lifestyle.
