Clover Health partnered with YouScript to offer an innovative in-home primary care program that uses genomic testing to help doctors prescribe the right dosages, reduce side effects and prevent hospital visits

One of the most expensive aspects of healthcare is admission to the hospital. San Francisco-based Medicare plan Clover Health has made a mission out of minimizing these types of visits and associated costs, effectively teaming up with YouScript, a company that uses genomic testing to provide elevated care.

The testing allows for a more thorough review of each patient’s case. In general, YouScript takes a precision-medicine approach, marshaling patient genomic data to gauge dosage and prescriptions as well as prevent undesirable side effects and adverse reactions. Furthermore, the in-home aspect of the program aims to provide personal check-ins, active monitoring and home-based radiology treatment to reduce the necessity of hospital visits.

Clover Health’s Andrew Toy notes that the company is using “machine learning rather than relying on outdated actuarial tables.” The two companies see their partnership as a way to help customers not only receive the best care, but also spend their insurance dollars in the most efficient way. The program is available through Medicare Advantage. Clover Health is also expanding its reach, aiming to provide their services in Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas.
