J.Crew Teams With Size-Inclusive Startup To Offer Women Extended Sizes

The American apparel brand is aiming to make its wares accessible to more women, partnering with Universal Standard to extend its size range

Despite being one of the most well-known and beloved American fashion brands, there is a significant percentage of the American population that until now has not had access to the clothing on offer at J.Crew due to a lack of sizing options. The clothing retailer is aiming to change this, teaming up with plus-size apparel startup Universal Standard to expand its size range and to ensure that all women can shop its wares.

Today, about two thirds of women in America fall into plus size clothing categories, meaning that some retailers are alienating a major portion of their potential customer base. Through this collaboration, J.Crew has expanded its clothing to a size 24, while Universal Standard plans to make all of its clothes available in sizes ranging from a 00 to a 40 by 2019.

Beyond physically expanding the size range of existing styles, both J.Crew and Universal Standard are prioritizing fit and tailoring to ensure that the produced pieces are flattering in a way that is unique to larger figures.
