This partnership aims to combine the massive inventories of the grocery and health & wellness retailers to enable one-stop shopping for consumers, even allowing them to order ahead online and pickup in-store

Two of the biggest players in America's grocery, pharmacy and beauty games are teaming up to create an easy all-in-one shop for customers. Walgreens and Kroger are joining forces for a beta test of their collaborative shopping experience, which will allow customers the convenience of shopping online and provide pickup at one convenient location, as well as enable a more flexible distribution model by offering greater shopping channels, a sales-driving strategy outlined in PSFK's Future of Retail 2019 report.

There will be 13 Walgreens locations in northern Kentucky that customers of both retailers can visit after making their purchases from these combined inventories online. The in-store pick up concept, while not just quick and easy for customers, will also help both brands cut any shipping costs that would apply to grocery and goods delivery.

Combining all of the services of both names in one centralized location will essentially join the brands as one store during this trial run. By providing Kroger pickup at Walgreens locations, this partnership also aims to give shoppers the chance to browse what Walgreens has to offer in its beauty and wellness departments.

Brands like Kroger and Walgreens are increasingly experimenting with innovative and flexible retail models that offer shoppers optimal convenience and greater fluidity of shopping styles. For more information, see PSFK's Future of Retail 2019 report.
