The online retail giant is streamlining its delivery system this holiday season with its own dedicated fleet, controlling more aspects of the retail cycle to better serve consumers

Throughout the holiday months this year, Amazon will be using its own delivery service for its Prime orders. The etailer giant will manage all elements necessary to coordinate deliveries, from hiring seasonal employees and controlling wages to managing schedules and providing vehicles.

The push toward starting its own delivery service is the company’s way of cutting out the middle man and holding itself more accountable as well as making a long-desired push toward controlling all aspects of the retail cycle, including delivery & logistics. In addition, the service serves to put the retailer in competition with the delivery companies it currently employs, like FedEx and UPS, and has been in the works since its delivery costs began increasing exponentially since 2015.

Furthermore, the jobs created for the last-mile delivery service will be full-time during the holiday season with drivers eligible to apply for more permanent positions afterwards, aiming to create seasonal jobs at a fair wage.
