The tech giant's latest upgrades to its image recognition app will enable those browsing Google Images to trace an item they like in a photo and receive identification as well as purchase details

Turning image browsing into shopping just got even easier thanks to Google Lens‘ new tool. With its latest AI enhancements, the tool now will identify exactly what items internet surfers are looking at in photos on Google Images, as well as where they can go to purchase the products.

With the new lens capabilities, when searchers find an item they like, they can either click on dots near the photo or trace a shape around part of the image using their finger. Google will then search for related information for that specific product.

Google made the enhancement in part to complete with idea board-generator platform Pinterest, who offers similar technology. Google, however, offers the full power of its internet search technology, helping customers to find the best deal on the product in question.

In addition to enabling more shoppable content, the updated Google Lens will also help people identify and find details on landmarks, animals, travel destinations and more. The technology is available now.
