The French grocery store is testing a store model that reduces its processed food section by 50% to include more fresh food, while also featuring digital integrations that allow customers to order online, pick up in store, self-checkout kiosks and more

Carrefour’s Paris pilot store takes the direction many grocers have been moving in lately: augmenting fresh options, reducing packaged foods and offering seamless digital integrations that allow for greater efficiency and convenience.

Carrefour’s Halle de Clichy store will offer several thousand of the grocer’s organic and store-brand fresh foods as well as include a staff of fishmongers, butchers and cheese experts who are all trained to give advice on their products and the culinary arts. The concept store will be just half the size of a standard Carrefour city store, so it will also be incorporating an online pick up function, allowing customers to shop a wider inventory online at hyper-market costs, and pick up their order in store or arrange for delivery.

The grocer hopes to provide consumers with the convenience of point-of-pickup and the breadth of online ordering with quality in-store experiences, even offering a small restaurant section where people looking to take a sit-down meal can do so. Carrefour intends for the location to test out as well as show consumers the direction it may take more of its stores in if successful.
