In addition to providing transport, Didi will also be offering users car loans and affordable personal insurance

Following wild success and the accumulation of over 550 million users, China’s top ride-hailing service, Didi, is expanding its business by adding additional services to its app.

The company will now offer financial products directly through the app. The first two offerings will be for car loans and personal insurance. Didi’s insurance offering will create mutual protection and also provide crowdfunding vehicles for major illnesses.

The company says their crowdfunding option, “breaks down annual critical illness insurance to lower the entry barrier for gig economy workers and broaden the scope of protection for more families.”

In addition to an attempt at growing their company, this move aimed at attracting users who participate in the “gig economy”. Many freelancers who use Didi may have difficulty finding affordable insurance, and this new offering may create a solution for those very workers.
