Do you know where your vegetables come from? It can be hard to tell when perusing the produce aisle to know where different products have been. Urban farming incubator Square Roots is changing that by providing QR codes on its greens that lets customers see the plants entire history.

Any plant from Square Roots system will carry this code, and create a Transparency Timeline. That includes when and where the plant in question was planted, grown and harvested, and when it was delivered to the store the customer is buying it from. To do this, the company is taking advantage of its indoor growing system and software that allows for more control over the growing conditions. The idea is that as farm-to-table eating becomes more popular, people will become more curious about the source of their produce.

“What people want to know, simply, is where and how was my food grown and who grew it? With that information, they can make their own informed choices about whether to trust the food and whether to buy it,” Kimbal Musk, the company's co-founder, told TechCrunch.
