In its NYC temp store, the beauty brand is encouraging customers to discover and try out its Clinique iD product line by way of personalized virtual testing and experiences

Beauty and skincare brand Clinique is using a tech-focused popup shop to promote its customizable moisturizing line. The 10-day experience will be held in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City and will highlight the Clinique iD product line.

Clinique's shop will use a blend of virtual reality and quizzes to help customers discover and test products. Visitors will begin their journey with a quiz on skin type, which will then lead them to their best possible match out of 15 moisturizers that come in five concentrations and in textures of gel, lotion or jelly. Shoppers can then try out test beds where Clinique's VR rigs will immersive them in the brand's most recent travel campaign taken by influencer partners.

In addition to experiencing the moisturizer line, customers can also order other products and have them shipped to the location. This popup is a first-ever for Clinique, as it joins the many beauty retailers experimenting with AR and VR integrations in-store as well as online. “We wanted to gauge people’s appetite to put on goggles and take this VR experience,” says Van Vahle, SVP of consumer engagement and ecommerce at the company. “People are [interacting] with VR, but outside the gaming environment, what role does it play in experiential retail?”
