The virtual beauty tool from ModiFace debuted on GarnierUSA.com last year, and is now coming to Walmart locations for an in-store pilot that lets shoppers preview over 100 hair shades

L’Oréal hair care brand Garnier is helping Walmart shoppers virtually test out hair colors. Called the Shade Selector, the tech was originally beta tested on Garnier's website and after much success will be coming to Walmart and several additional retailers during the year.

With the help of ModiFace, a L’Oréal-owned beauty tech AR and VR developer, customers can test out the over 130 hair colors from Garnier Nutrisse, Color Sensation and Olia in a selection of Walmart stores across the United States. These locations will include cities in California, Arkansas and Texas and will stay open up to a year on this trial run.

In addition, Walmart is bringing on beauty advisers to assist customers in using the Shade Selector and completing the product quiz, and for further assistance some locations will use a VR-enabled tablet. This tech will also be coming to Wakefern in March and Meijer stores before the end of 2019.
