An app-integrated payment system from the supermarket chain aims to make checkout easier than ever while also linking to customers' rewards accounts

Grocery chain Kroger Co is creating a mobile in-store checkout function for rewards members. Called Kroger Pay, the program will allow shoppers using a Kroger card to scan QR codes on their phones for more seamless payment.

The QR codes are single-use, which will eliminate any redundant charges and create a unique cart for checkout each time that customers shop. In addition to streamlining the checkout and payment process, the app synchs with Kroger's loyalty program as well, generating special offers and personalized deals and coupons for customers after paying.”Kroger Pay is one of the few mobile wallets that pairs loyalty and payment,” said Mary Ellen Adcock, group vice president of operations. “The application of this exciting technology is another step in our front-end experience transformation.”

The program was recently launched in Columbus, Ohio with expansion plans for 10 new markets already set for the spring and a national distribution slated for 2019. Kroger Pay is available on iOS and Android devices and redeems fuel and rewards points just the same as a traditional checkout does.
