The retailer is introducing MoDRN, a 650-piece line that will offer millennials a modern aesthetic at discounted prices

West Elm, with its midcentury-modern furniture design, is very popular with today's millennial consumers. If customers have any complaint about the retailer, however, it's that the pieces tend to run premium prices. Walmart recently announced a plan to take on higher-cost furniture manufacturers with a low-cost line it is calling MoDRN.

While MoDRN's pieces will be similar in look to brands like West Elm and Wayfair, the cost will be much lower. Prices will range from $700 to $899 for couches, $599 to $649 for beds, $20 to $60 for bar accessories, and $199 to $699 for indoor and outdoor furniture.

Over the past year, Walmart has added hundreds of thousands of items to Walmart.com Home. MoDRN is intended to further these efforts, forming a core part of its home offering. Furthermore, MoDRN is an opportunity for the retailer to flex its big-box muscles in a highly competitive market, targeting younger consumers. The line is now available in stores and online.
