The AR platform lets customers browse and trial sneakers from various brands virtually, aiming to raise conversions and reduce returns by allowing anywhere pre-purchase previews

Buying shoes online can be a guessing game for a number of reasons. Belarus-based startup Wannaby is looking to address the pain points of the shopper discovery phase with its new augmented reality app currently in beta: Wanna Kicks.

The platform is currently only available for iOS devices, and lets shoppers project different sneakers from multiple brands onto their feet in real time to preview how they would look. It works similar to the way Snapchat filters do, laying 3D images over a selected object and letting users move around to see it from different angles. While the app can't tell shoppers which size to buy, it aims to give them ideas and narrow down their choices before perhaps visiting a store, or buying online.

“Our mission is to break online shopping barriers,” Wannaby CEO Sergey Arkhangelskiy tells TechCrunch. “We believe that AR try-on can help customers to shop online and will wash away the difference between online and offline shopping. The ability to try sneakers with your phone before buying online should shift conversions, engagement and returns.”
