The apparel retailer hopes to drive engagement and foot traffic with an in-store popup featuring merch from resaler Urban Necessities, also strengthening its sustainability measures

Sneaker culture in the U.S. continues to experience high popularity, particularly among younger consumers. While American Eagle is primarily known as a clothing retailer, the brand will be targeting these sneaker-obsessed shoppers with a recently debuted popup shop located in New York City.

AE is accordingly teaming with Las Vegas-based activewear resaler Urban Necessities to open a popup that will feature shoes ranging in cost from $150 to $50,000. The shop will features brands like Supreme, Nike and Adidas. Chad Kessler of American Eagle, says that while most customers can't afford $50,000 sneakers, “I am sure lots of people will be dying to come to the store and check them out.”

The hope is that once customers are in the shop to view the merch, they might buy something more accessible. This partnership also helps AE achieve its goals towards greater sustainability, aligning with growing consumer interest in premium second-hand merchandise.
