As online retailers continue to explore visual shopping and search functionality, Google pushes ahead with the launch of shoppable image search results

After much talk, Google finally launched a shoppable image search functionality. Now Googlers can view products for purchase in sponsored ads on the result pages for their image searches.

The shoppable images are displayed with a tag in the bottom right corner of the webpage, and can be accessed on either via mobile or desktop devices for more information about the product, like brand and price. Currently the shoppable images are being tested in a few small markets with select retailers, leaning toward design-heavy selections like “abstract art,” “home office” and “shower tiles.”

Along with this functionality addition to its search engine, Google is also allowing companies to promote their products on its Showcase Shopping, sponsored ads that appear on Google Images. As more retailers and companies continue to explore visual search and shopping functions, Google hopes to provide brands with a fresh way to market their products and services.
