The chain restaurant's Innovations Lab is an Indiegogo crowdsourcing and crowdfunding campaign that helps the brand foster innovation and gauge consumer interest

American fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken recently debuted a way for customers to offer innovative ideas and crowdfund their favorites on Indiegogo. The KFC Innovations Lab launched with a YouTube video and featured a series of products and platforms that, if fully funded by the fans, would be produced into manifestation by KFC.

Some of the projects include a Kentucky Fried Hot Tub styled after after the classic KFC bucket, a location tracking necktie much like the one worn by the Colonel called the Little Colonel Locator, and a picnic kit featuring a cardboard table and cutout of the Colonel called Picnic with the Colonel.

Contributors to these projects will be awarded KFC swag, such as sweatpants, T-shirts and 3D stickers, contingent on the amount donated. Others will be refunded any money put toward a losing effort. Ultimately, the initiative is design to gauge consumer interest in new ideas, helping crowdsource as well as crowdfund what customers really want and in an accessible, digital-first way.
