The office supply brand's platform on the etailer's site aims to leverage the former's capabilities and localized connections with the latter's global reach, helping SME's better tap China's ecommerce market

Alibaba is quickly becoming one of the most profitable online marketplaces in the world, with businesses large and small working to get on its platform and in front of Chinese customers. Office Depot is looking to help U.S. business owners better reach this audience with a special partnership, currently called Office Depot on Alibaba.com.

The site will feature products from small to medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the U.S., and Office Depot will provide local support and a direct line to sourcing experts for those businesses that do offer products. Once the platform is better established, both companies will work towards faster and more cost-effective shipping methods cross-border.

“American SMEs—who account for 99.7% of all companies in the United State— need more ways to grow and compete in today’s economy and take advantage of the enormous opportunity in B2B ecommerce,” John Caplan, head of North America B2B at Alibaba Group says in a statement. “With Office Depot, we will be able to offer SMEs more choice, greater access and further opportunities to grow. Overall, the partnership aims to leverage Office Depot's capabilities and localized connections with Alibaba's global reach, helping clients tap the multi trillion-dollar market.
