Starbucks is redesigning its rewards program, eliminating its previous green and gold tiers and offering customers greater choice of point redemption starting at 25 points

As rewards programs become more popular, retailers continue to look for ways to make theirs stand out. Starbucks‘ is hoping to make its program worth customers' while with a revamped rewards model.

The current program offers customers 2 stars for every dollar they spend, and grants them one free item of any size once they reach 125 points. The new system gamifies the process more, letting members redeem stars at various levels for different items. For example, a free espresso shot, dairy substitute or additional flavor go for 25 points; free coffee, tea, or bakery items are available at 50 stars; free handcrafted drinks or hot breakfast items retail for 150 stars; and a free lunch sandwich, protein box, or salad is accessible at 200 stars.

There are even more perks at 400 stars, with free merchandise and at-home coffee options. This rewards system is designed to allow customers more freedom in how they use their stars, either utilizing smaller perks more often or saving up for bigger items. It also provides a lower bar of entry for new members learning the system, letting them get a reward sooner rather than later.
