The pizza chain is attempting to edge out the market leader, offering U.K. customers the chance to scan Domino's ads with its AR app and access competitive offers

Sometimes, brand loyalty isn't enough to persuade customers to overlook a good deal. In the U.K., fast food chain Pizza Hut is hoping to sway some customers back to its side with its Deal Jacker app.

Created with ad agency Iris, the platform uses augmented reality to scan deals and offers from Domino's and replace the image with a better deal from Pizza Hut. If the app doesn't recognize the deal that is being scanned, Pizza Hut will give the customer an automatic half-off deal if they spend twenty pounds on food with them.

“It is the perfect platform to showcase how our deals are better than the market leader’s in a disruptive and unexpected way. Deal Jacker scans images of our competitor’s deals and renders better Pizza Hut Delivery deals on top thanks to cloud based image recognition software,” Andrei Andreescu, Creative Technologist at Iris says in a statement. The app is available for both iOS and Android.
