Instagram's own @shop page will let consumers click to buy directly and without leaving the feed thanks to its Checkout feature

Continuing its efforts to corner the market on social commerce, Instagram recently added new features allowing for immediate action: The platform’s Checkout feature lets consumers purchase items without leaving the feed they’re viewing.

Even more, Instagram is also currently working to launch a new account called @shop, built to curate its own product recommendations. The app will showcase fashion, beauty and home brands, aimed at an audience (at first) of women in their 20’s and 30’s, and promoting one per day to give each individual brand due exposure.

The app already features an array of brands like makeup mainstay Glossier and nail salon chain Olive & June, granting a little insight to the featured brands and how they got started. As Eva Chen, head of fashion partnerships at Instagram and former Lucky Magazine editor, told Business of Fashion, “I think most of us who love to shop like hearing about the background of a product because it makes you appreciate it more.”
