Knickey is encouraging sustainability by offering its subscribers the chance to trade in used intimate apparel for a free new pair

Direct to consumer underwear brand Knickey is offering customers the chance to recycle their old wares for a new pair. The retailer's subscription service, which offers three tiers of purchasing for a year-long subscription, consists of an all-organic production of underwear for men and women.

Knickey wants to take its sustainability measures a step beyond manufacturing and quality by encouraging consumers to repurpose their old socks and undergarments. The exchange program will allow customers to send their used items back to Knickey in the same box they received their monthly order in. Non-members of the subscription service are also welcome to donate. From there, Knickey will use the returned clothing to create a number of new products.

Nearly half of the people who participate in this recycle program are not Knickey members, and of the Knickey member donators, only about a quarter redeem their free pair. The retailer has only lightly advertised the program, wanting to preserve its authenticity and let the word spread more organically.
