No Frills' virtual haul mobile and desktop game encourages loyalty members to earn rewards points by finding and collecting digital groceries, while avoiding pitfalls and blocks

Canadian supermarket chain No Frills, which recently re-branded its discount shoppers by naming them “haulers,” is launching an integrated campaign with an online, digital shopping video game.

Hosted on the NoFrills.ca website, the retro-style game is called Hauler: Aisles of Glory, and is based on the in-store shopping experience, inviting shoppers to collect points hauling groceries and avoiding blocks like diamonds and expensive speed boats. The hauler runs through the aisles to collect groceries and then reward points, starting each game with three lives.

Shoppers can earn three tiers of points during their game, 100 points for things like toilet paper and laundry detergent, 200 points for apples and bell peppers, and 300 points for avocados and chocolate chip cookies—and more. As an extra incentive, the game is also offering a PC Optimum points every day, granting users 500 points for just playing the game.

After shoppers have completed their haul, they can enter their PC Optimum card number to claim their rewards. “Every major sport has a video game franchise, so why should hauling be any different?” says Uwe Stueckmann, SVP of marketing, Loblaw Companies. “The best haulers aren't born—they're made. This game is designed to let them practice before they head to No Frills for an epic haul.”
