Sainsbury's is redesigning its loyalty program to offer targeted rewards as well as greater digital integration for seamless transactions

U.K. supermarket giant Sainsbury's is aiming to better tailor offers to customers through a trail version of its Nectar loyalty scheme in Wales.

The system works by rewarding customers with Nectar points should they choose weekly offers that are based on their preferences and items typically bought. Customers can also tell the store which offers they like and do not like and also save up favorites to receive points on. The Nectar program is now offered online and through a mobile app, able to keep all offers in one place.

The company has been running the trial on the Isle of Wight since April 2018, but is looking to extend it to Welsh stores. Marketing director of Sainsbury's told North Wales Live of the company's strong desire to appeal to customers with a personalized, high-tech experience: “We are always looking for new ways to innovate and reward loyalty. Our New Nectar trial in Wales is fully digital and rewards customers with offers which are completely personalised to them.”
