From interactive makeup mirrors to selfie-based skin analyses, leading brands based in Asia are bringing expert-led and personalized advice to consumers' fingertips

Skincare has become a dominating force in the beauty industry, valued at close to $135 billion worldwide in 2018. Now, many brands based in Asia are building AI devices that personalize the customer experience and keep up with growing demand for cutting-edge products.

As researchers identified in PSFK's Reinventing Beauty Services Through Experiences & Engagement report, the following brands are bringing customization and tailored advice to beauty consumers' fingertips in the following ways:

Alibaba Tmall Genie Queen
Chinese e-tailer Alibaba released a voice-powered makeup mirror called the Tmall Genie Queen. The smart mirror responds to voice commands, providing customers with beauty tips, routine reminders and branded content. It also has the ability to asses skin and suggest beauty products while users apply their makeup.

Lululab Lumini
Korean beauty startup Lululab recently debuted a store in Dubai with an AI-based assistant named Lumini. After taking a photo at the in-store Lumini kiosk, customers receive an analysis of their skin, along with a list of recommended products.

Samsung x Revieve
Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung partnered with Finnish beauty-tech company Revieve to offer skin analysis through Bixby Vision. Acting as Samsung’s virtual assistant, customers with the Galaxy S10 smartphone can simply take a selfie to receive Revieve's skin analysis.
