The New York City-founded airline is bringing local flavor to its T5 terminal, featuring new restaurants like Shake Shack and Melt Shop

Conventional wisdom says that it's pretty much impossible to get a sense of a city just from its airport. But JetBlue is attempting to do just that with a few additions to its terminal in New York City's JFK Airport. Seven new restaurants, all selected to represent the best of NYC's food scene, will come to JetBlue's T5 terminal later this year.

JetBlue, which was also founded in New York, picked its marquis restaurants to introduce a bit of local flavor to its terminal. Lil’ Sweet Chick, KorillaBBQ, Melt Shop, Otto’s Tacos, Ovenly, Shake Shack and The Little Beet will all open their own outposts in JFK within the next few months, bringing a mix of tastes and boroughs to visitors and locals alike.

“We take our position as New York’s Hometown Airline seriously,” said Mariya Stoyanova, director product development at JetBlue, in a statement. “Rather than the typical chains, we offer customers traveling through T5 a real and delicious taste of New York from places that real New Yorkers frequent.”

The new restaurants will join other mainstays like Baked By Melissa and Dylan’s Candy Bar, which have already represented Manhattan in the airport. Construction will begin this fall. This comes as airports and other travel establishments look to provide more locally immersive experiences and invite travelers to enjoy the journey, not just the destination.
