Brands and services are empowering senior solo travelers with programs that match them with travel partners or groups, creating a safer environment and forming new friendships

Travel presents today's seniors with the opportunity to experience the world in an entirely new way. What's more, the number of over-60s who have booked as guests on Airbnb grew by 66% worldwide in 2017, and Baby Boomers plan on spending over $6,600 on their 2019 travel—more than any other generation.

Accordingly, companies are now tailoring travel and experiences for seniors, in particular empowering them to bond with other sojourners if flying solo. Going beyond itineraries, these brands and services are matching seniors with companions and curating authentic experiences for adventure-hungry older consumers:

Senior Travel Buddy
Like a dating site, the travel service Senior Travel Buddy encourages senior solo travelers to meet and find travel companions. Users create a profile by answering 28 questions about their traveling
preferences, and then the site matches them with the best locals to meet on their solo travels.

Overseas Adventure Travel
Boston-based tour company Overseas Adventure Travel offers small group guided tours for travelers 55 years of age or older to bucket-list worthy destinations such as the Arctic and African safaris. Currently, 47% of their customers are solo travelers, and 85% of those solo travelers are women.

YMCA
Community service organization YMCA launched Active Older Adults Camp, which offers people over 50 the chance to get outdoors and make new friends. The five-day camp includes activities like hiking, rafting and arts and crafts, such as tie dye and woodcarving.
