Ever wanted to create that trendy outfit you saw on Instagram but weren’t quite sure where to start? Apparel retailer Uniqlo has a solution in the form of a mobile app that recommends clothing based on user-uploaded photos.

The app, called Stylehint, allows shoppers to upload either their own photos or an inspiration image from social media in order to find similar pieces from Uniqlo, making it easy to recreate a look they saw on Instagram or find new pieces that would fit into their wardrobe. Functioning as a shoppable social media platform, StyleHint users are able to follow others and share their favorite looks, as well as shop directly through the app.

Uniqlo's app highlights the influence of social media on customer purchasing decisions. It also showcases the growing capabilities of smart software and the potential that visual search streams have in improving shopper marketing and discovery.
