This electronics retailer is providing consumers with the means to browse, test-mount and purchase the best TV for their space—all from their phone

From home improvements to DIY projects, stuck-inside homeowners are investing in redesigning their spaces to meet their desires—and possibly also to stave off lockdown boredom. Considering the growing need for remote product visualizations and try-ons, coupled with plunging tech hardware sales during Covid-19, electronics retailer SONY created an augmented reality mobile app experience that helps shoppers virtually mount and purchase televisions.

The app is called Envision TV AR, and works through users' smartphone camera to place a TV model on their chosen wall. The app scans their space and builds a grid on the phone screen to let shoppers select where they'd like to place a model of their choice. By using two fingers on the phone screen, shoppers can adjust and move the TV to different locations.

This type of virtual trial and testing can help build shopper confidence in their selection, guiding customers down the path to purchase and enabling an entirely digital end-to-end consumer journey.
