TeamViewer, a leading global provider of remote connectivity and workplace digitization solutions, has partnered with Google to create an ‘Assisted Order Picking’ fulfillment solution for retailers and grocers. The innovative hands-free application uses TeamViewer’s vision-picking software from its Frontline suite in concert with Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 smart glasses to bring an augmented reality solution to omnichannel fulfillment.
Store associates receive the information they need to fulfill orders within the AR display of Google Glass through a connection to the retailer's order fulfillment system that includes updated inventory numbers in real time. The heads-up display capability enables associates to use both hands to locate and pick the correct items, with the capability of improving pick rates anywhere from 15% to 40%. At the same time, the hands free order-picking solution provides new data and insights to retailers grappling with increasing demand from customers for buy-online-pickup-in-store (BOPIS) and same-day delivery options. TeamViewer acquired Upskill, a pioneer in industrial augmented reality solutions, in March 2021 and this new offering builds on TeamViewer’s integration and acquisition of UpSkill’s capabilities.
Shopping behavior has dramatically changed over the past few years, and retailers are having to hire new associates while rethinking their picking and fulfillment processes in order to meet new consumer expectations and increasing demand for hyper-fast delivery. Retailers are looking for off-the-shelf technology they can implement today that will also prepare them for long term success as they develop new approaches to the modern store and drive loyalty among a new breed of digital-first shoppers by adjusting to and activating against omnichannel trends and hybrid realities. The new tool form TeamViewer and Google empowers store associates to provide a higher level of service and allows retailers to streamline their business model by improving both the front and back-end of retail order fulfillment operations. In the future, the two companies are hoping to extend their partnership and apply the same AR technology to improve manufacturing, field service, and supply chain processes across other industries.
