Matt Stinchcomb, Etsy: Why The Future Of Online Commerce Is Offline

Matt Stinchcomb of Etsy gave an update on the sustainable initiatives of the platform and how they are taking their network into the physical world.

Matt Stinchcomb, VP of Values & Impact at Etsy, gave an update at PSFK CONFERENCE 2013 on how the e-commerce platform has grown and changed over the past few years. They have recently begun hosting an event called ‘Hello Etsy' that brings together people in the offline world and thinks about how Etsy is more than just a marketplace for handmade vintage goods, and how it is actually serves as a larger platform for smaller businesses. As Stinchcomb says, a big number of small things is a lot more durable than a small number of big things, and this is exactly what Etsy represents.

Shifting towards the idea sustainability, Etsy has been focusing on creating a greater impact on the world by building a framework that lets small business flourish. With this came a whole new mission statement, which is to re-imagine commerce in ways that build a more fulfilling and lasting world.
