Scott Thrift, ThePresent: How Changing The Way We Think Of Time Can Help Us Get More Done

In this video, Scott Thrift talks about why breaking things down into hours, minutes and seconds makes us less productive.

Scott Thrift, Creative Director and Horologist at ThePresent, made his first appearance on stage at PSFK CONFERENCE 2013.  This year at our annual event, Thrift was back to speak about the importance of time and how we relate to it. He believes that if we build longer attention spans, we would be better able to manage our time, get more done, and generally be happier.

Thrift acknowledged that it is becoming increasingly difficult for our culture to be still and do nothing, because there is so much we want to accomplish. Because we tend to focus on time as  hours, minutes, and seconds, constantly moving from one task to another and trying to cram as much into each moment as we can, it's extremely difficult to understand the concept of “a long time”. However,  by removing the stressful boundaries of compartmentalized time to mark out the slower passage of 365 days instead,  thePresent clock allows us to reorient our attention, freeing up time for contemplation and enjoyment. He explained to the audience that we can accomplish a great deal if we truly believe time is on our side.
