The report suggest that the wide scale use of broadband in the country has led to the dramatic decline of newspaper readership in South Korea. Spurred by a distrust in mainstream media, sites like ohmynews.com have taken the place for many Koreans first place for news.
The most interesting thing about ohmynews.com is that it’s folksonomic. 3,500 readers write the 300 daily news articles. A recently introduced tipping system allows the audience to tip writers – one writer’s report was so popular, he received $5000 US in a couple of days from over 800 tippers!
