Rhapsody To Launch Zune Killer
Gossip is that iTunes ankle biters Rhapsody are planning to launch a music player to give some healthy competition to the iPod and a kick in the teeth to Microsoft’s future Zune product.
Rhapsody is a music subscription site and works in a different way to downloadable music as you never own the song - you just have an access to a huge (but not complete) music catalog. Their service doesn’t work with portable music players like the iPod, but a player that can handle subscription-songs could give a really alternative to those music lovers who have evolved from the need to own music. And this player will be WiFi - any music, any where, any time.
PSFK has been told that Rhapsody are currently presenting the project to major record labels in the US to gather support. Recently, Microsoft announced the future launch of an iPod killer with a project name called the Zune but to be honest we don’t give it much hope: anyone remember the Origami?? And do we really want to lend our record collection to the big software giant to monitor and control??
