Mainstream Media “Meltdown”

Chris Anderson backs up his book’s claims with some stats on his blog about the failings of old-school media. Here’s a quick summary:

Going Down:

TV: lowest US ratings week ever

Music: 10-year low in album sales

Radio: audience is down 8.5%

DVDs: shipments are down 4%

Newspapers: down 2.6% so far this year.

Up’n'down:

Magazines: ad revenues up 3.7%, newsstand sales are at an all-time low.

Going Up:

Box Office: Up by 5.8% so far this year

Videogames: June sales were up 25%.

Internet advertising: Will grow by 21% this year.
