By Amanda Gore (PSFK London) on October 26, 2006

Evan Schindler, the founder and former editorial/creative director of Blackbook magazine and Maurizio Marchiori, the former vice president of marketing of Diesel USA have joined forces to launch Tar Art Media. Announced yesterday, the New York-based company is a ‘socially conscious creative collective whose current divisions include Tar Creative Agency, Tar Film and Documentary, Tar Publishing, and Tar Online,’ through which they plan to develop, curate and create artistic content for magazines, books, film, and online projects.

In his press release Mr Schindler describes Tar as "a media company with a message. Its mission is to raise social awareness and elevate culture through artistic and message-based content.”, achieved through the forging of strategic partnerships with like-minded companies and creatives.

Projects already scheduled for the company include:
-A series of not-for-profit advertising campaigns for a collaboration between ONE organisation and  socially conscious clothing label EDUN- The campaign goal is to promote ONE’S mission to fight AIDS and extreme poverty. Sales of a limited edition EDUN designed t-shirt will raise money and awareness for the global charity

-Overseeing the global image, branding and charitable initiatives of the Only The Brave Foundation; Diesel owner Renzo Rosso’s new charity which aims to explore new and revolutionary approaches to global charitable causes.

- Curating exhibitions and artistic events for the not-for-profit arts project/artist collective Emergency Arts which responds to environmental, social, and political issues in New York City and around the world.

- Producing a doumentary featuring vignettes directed by several leading directors for BFAD (Bicycle For A Day: For one day a year the planet will give up motor vehicles and instead ride bicycles.). The project is in production with Tar and is scheduled to  launch in 5 international cities in fall 2007, aiming to be global by August 2009.

-A collaboration with Aboutblu, One of the largest safety-wear companies in Europe, to launch a fashion /lifestyle sneaker and clothing line globally in 2007.

As well as all of these projects, Tar Publishing will launch a bi-annual arts magazine that explores all the latest in the arts alongside important topical social issues seen through the creative lens. As Mr Marchiori explains "Art is the new lifestyle. In the future,
anything truly innovative will originate from artistic concepts. Even
business will be an art project."
