RetrojunkPhil clued us in to Retrojunk.com, a catalog of cultural artifacts from the ’70’s, ’80’s and ’90’s. There are movies, TV shows, commercials, and articles of each era, mostly sent in by users, summoning from their memories such gems as this Mcdonalds spot for the McDLT.

Yes. That is Jason Alexander. But what’s the McDLT?

Mcdonald’s take on the BLT (Bacon/Lettuce/Tomato) was released in 1985, and came packaged in a special double-sided styrofoam box. One side held the hot burger and bun, the second side held the other bun with the cool lettuce and tomato. It allowed people to finalize preparation of the sandwich by combining the hot and cool sides just before eating. Sadly, the innovative packaging also directly led to the demise of the McDLT.

For its entertainment value, Retrojunk is a pretty interesting content aggregator, combining Wikipedia, Flickr and Youtube functionality with a specific theme -Pop culture through the decades.

What would happen if Wikipedia added features which allowed users to upload songs, movies and images? So if you looked up “The Cosby show” you could not only watch every episode, you could also download the theme song. There’d probably be some licensing issues to work through, but nothing that Youtube isn’t already doing.
