Burda Style- Open Source Sewing

by Matthias Weber (PSFK Hamburg)

burda_style.jpgRemember those knitting and sewing magazines your mother used to pile up? Burda has taken this idea Web 2.0 with their Open Source Sewing platform. It was started in January this year at Digital Lifestyle Day.

We like to think of this website as a virtual sewing circle, an open-source hub of ideas, expertise, and amazing patterns you can download and sew at home.

You get to download all kinds of sewing patterns which are open for your own modifications- you are even allowed to sell these in a limited edition through etsy, or learn different techniques in step-by-step photo tutorials. If you don’t know your way along the instructions the Sewpedia section explains the basics and terminolgies of sewing. Of course you can also upload and showcase your own creations.
