
OK. We love Trader Joe’s. But this sign in a Pennsylvania store doesn’t seem to be in keeping with the drive to get local. The sign reads:

OK. We love Trader Joe’s. But this sign in a Pennsylvania store doesn’t seem to be in keeping with the drive to get local. The sign reads:
“Trader Joe flies the world in search of new and unique items for your enjoyment”
I’m a long, long time Trader Joe’s fan. Having grown up in Southern California I remember going to TJ’s more than 20 years ago. The whole story behind the store is that they are an international importer of delicacies from around the world. Check out the decor of the store and the way the employees dress - it’s a South Seas motif that speaks of a bygone era of goods from around the world traveling by boat.
So, while there is indeed a more general trend towards the local, for Trader Joe’s to go in that direction would be in conflict with the story that have built over more than two decades.
