Toyota’s Winglet Personal Transportation Assistant

by Dan Gould

Everyone is calling Toyota’s Winglet the Segway killer, but it’s more like comparing a compact car to an SUV. It’s a personal transportation assistant, basically a little electric scooter that will zip you around. The Winglet comes in three sizes (small medium and large), is lightweight, and can be fully charged in an hour. Maximum speed is 6 km an hour, which is snail like compared to the Segway, but sufficient for little jaunts. Advantage goes to Winglet as far as sleek design, but if you need a more robust vehicle, the hefty Segway is the real winner.

Although these things rate high on the cool scale, it seems like a gadget that gives you an excuse to be lazy. Who besides the disabled, or elderly should be using one of these? Is walking really too much trouble?
