Japanese Mobile Providers Test Smart Movie Posters

Several Japanese cell-phone providers will be testing Near Field Communication (NFC), a short-range wireless technology that’s embedded within movie posters for passerby’s to access with their compatible cell-phones. Content will range from wallpapers, ringtones & passcodes to access trailers in high-def.

While a massive upgrade to the current commuter-ad-content-provider, QR, the two-dimensional bar code that users scan with cellphone cameras to access ads, NFC is a simpler technology, needing only the phone in close proximity for instant access to content. We’re just hoping our phones won’t be constantly battling the onslaught of new signals, draining our batteries faster than ever.
