$18 Transatlantic Flights?

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has announced that plans are in the works for a new pricing scheme that could offer transatlantic flights for as low as $18. He expects that  within two and a half years, these unheard of prices could go into effect. O’Leary plans to do all this by making the global financial crisis work for his company. In the near future, when (as he predicts) airlines are going out of business, and planes can be had for rock-bottom prices, Ryanair will snatch them up and be able to offer such low rates.

He explains:

We won’t do this until we are at the bottom of the business cycle. The only time to set up an airline is when they are parking planes in the desert. We are not very far from that at the moment.

We would plan to do long-haul 18 months after we secure a fleet of aircraft.
